Ren Genevieve’s debut EP, 'tongue tied', is a 5-track intimate dive into the highs, lows, the unanswered questions, and the bittersweet process of growing into your own person. Across these five tracks, Genevieve fluently unpacks the “what-ifs” of friendships, love, and self-growth by birthing an album that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

The titular track, 'tongue tied,' establishes the tone of the album while the song confronts the pain of a ruptured relationship with unapologetic honesty. Her voice carries the weight of betrayal as the song builds around an airy production which allows her lyrics and vocals to take center stage.

'space' slows things down and explores the emptiness left behind after love fades, questioning whether any of it was real to begin with. The soft instrumentals and aching vocals mirror that lingering uncertainty by Genevieve. The minimalistic approach to production mirrors the emptiness left behind, hitting where it hurts (in the best way, possible).

Meanwhile, 'michigan' expresses the frustrating cycle of moving forward while the past continues to linger. The lyric “I left my heart in michigan” isn’t just poetic, but the perfect metaphor for leaving pieces of yourself in the places and people you’ve loved, even when they’re no longer yours. It's like if Taylor Swift's dynamic production had a child with Fletcher's lyricism and vocal range!

'forts' revisits some childhood memories. It longs for the simpler times when life was all about pillow forts and flashlight-lit dreams. There is a wistful warmth in Genevieve’s storytelling. It’s the kind of song that hits you with the harsh reality that time keeps moving whether you’re ready or not. Change isn’t up for debate, it just happens.

The concluding track of the EP, 'gods to ground' takes a more confident, self-assured turn. This one feels less like a goodbye and more like a rebirth.

With 'tongue tied,' Ren Genevieve has produced a universally relatable collection of songs. From heartbreak to self-growth, each song on this album explores a different kind of growing pain. One thing’s clear; 'tongue tied' proves Genevieve's strong suit as a storyteller first, an artist second!
