Vatnehall is a collaborative project between the talented Svend Skogheim, who plays the drums and provides the vocals, and Tage Johnsen, who takes care of the guitars and bass parts. The duo is well-versed in their respective music scenes as Svend is the drummer for the bands Stargazer and IceBridge, and Tage is providing his bass skills for the band Grand Minor. They come together to create a unique and powerful soundscape in their duo project Vatnehall. Their debut track "Back to Life" just dropped and has got us all hooked!
The intro begins with all power with an electric guitar melody and marching drum-work. Svend's vocals kick in shortly, preparing you for the storm that is coming ahead. The harmonies come out of nowhere, catching you off guard and adding an adventurous feel to the track. The duo's influence in metal can be seen in the arrangement of the track with power surges and breakdowns, making the track very flavourful. The song speaks about mental health struggles, along with the accompanying music video. The guitar solo comes in as the cherry on top! This is a prime example of power metal done right and deserves a listen!
